Baylor football has gotten off to a hot start, going 4-0 through the first month of the season. Will the Bears keep the ball rolling in October?

Matt Rhule has been working some magic in Waco through the first month of the season. Although his Bears haven’t played anyone with a pulse outside of Iowa State, they’ve still put up a perfect 4-0 record and are in a prime position to surprise people in October.

Just a couple of years ago, the Bears went 1-11 as Rhule was getting calls for other jobs and he serious considered leaving. He didn’t want to leave the program in a bad place, though, and turned things around last season, leading them to a bowl game.

Now he’s just two wins away from bowl eligibility and the calendar just turned to October. What could we see from this team in the next four weeks?

3. John Lovett has three 100-yard games

Junior running back John Lovett has quietly had an impressive first month. While he only has 238 rushing yards and a touchdown through four games, he hasn’t had much of a workload but he is averaging 7.0 yards per carry.

Lovett only saw five carries against Rice, nine carries against UTSA and eight touches versus Stephen F. Austin yet he still managed a 100-yard game in that mix. If he continues to get more touches, he’ll be able to crack 100 yards more than just occasionally; it’ll become a regular occurrence.

Baylor faces Kansas State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and West Virginia this month and I believe the staff will rely more on the run game so the offense isn’t as one-dimensional as it has been through five weeks. With that, Lovett will see a much larger workload and he’ll crack 100 yards three times in four games.

Not a bad way to heat up heading into the final month of the season.
