Which Group of Five teams in college football improved their standings to procure the coveted New Year’s Six Bowl game? Here’s the top five candidates.

Welcome back to the watch. Here we try to find the right college football team qualified to represent the Group of Five in the coveted New Year’s Six bowl game.

Here are this week’s five candidates:

The Bearcats slip for the same reason the Golden Knights slip; they didn’t have difficult wins last week. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing for either squad. The Bearcats 52-14 rout of Marshall. They didn’t fall for the trap game. Now, it’s on. Nippert at Night and an opportunity to right the wrongs of last season’s game against Central Florida. It’s all on the line for the Bearcats; they lose they’re no longer a candidate for the watch.

Similar to their rivals, the Bearcats, the Golden Knights must win to continue their candidacy for the watch. Also like Cincinnati, they didn’t fall for the trap game either routing the Connecticut Huskies 56-21 in the Civil Conflict last weekend. Both teams coming into this game with only one loss gives their Friday night game significantly more meaning.

Memphis gets a bump because they had the best win of any team considered for the watch with their 35-23 win against the Navy Midshipmen. It was a tale of two halves in this game. Navy had success slowing the game down in the second half, then the Tigers took the game over with their speed, and hit several big plays and outscored the Midshipmen 21-3 in the second half. They have Louisiana-Monroe this week, and they can’t stop anyone, so the Tigers should stay on the watch; for now.
