Iowa State Football: 3 bold predictions for October 2019
Iowa State football enters a critical month of October that could decide the fate of their postseason hopes. Can the Cyclones shock the Big 12?
Matt Campbell probably didn’t expect a 2-2 start to the season, but he can get his Iowa State Cyclones back on track with a big month of October.
People are already overlooking Iowa State after a loss to Baylor as well as another to Iowa, but they were by a combined three points. This team is a couple of plays away from being 4-0 and ranked squarely in the middle of the AP Top 25.
Don’t count the Cyclones out just yet.
3. Breece Hall emerges as No. 1 running back
Am I more bullish on Breece Hall than most? Yeah, probably, but I think this kid has the potential to be a star in the Cyclones’ backfield. He’s currently fifth on the team in rushing but he hasn’t quite gotten an opportunity to break out and I think that’s coming.
Matt Campbell has voiced some frustrations by not settling on a No. 1 back through the month of September and I think we’ll see him shuffle through Kene Nwangwu, Johnnie Lang and Sheldon Croney Jr. before settling on Hall. I think we’ll see a decent one-two punch of Hall and Nwangwu moving forward.
These are called bold predictions for a reason so why not have the team’s fifth-leading rusher rise up and take the No. 1 job?
Hall will have a big month and improve on that 4.8 yards per carry mark he put up through September and finally become the replacement for David Montgomery who people have been clamoring for.
