College Football Rankings 2019: Projected Top 25, Week 7 – Florida climbs
By Zach Bigalke
Against a Purdue team that was down to three healthy wide receivers and without starting quarterback Elijah Sindelar, Penn State had a field day. The Nittany Lions came out on Homecoming weekend with a 35-7 victory over the Boilermakers to stake their claim as the best team in the Big Ten East.
Sean Clifford threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns on 20-of-29 passing, and he carried the ball 11 times for 33 rushing yards and another score on the ground. Noah Cain led Penn State in rushing, notching 105 yards and a touchdown on a dozen carries. And the Nittany Lions defense came up just as big, holding the underpowered Purdue offense to just 104 total yards for the day.
A big road trip to Iowa will offer a critical top-15 Big Ten matchup in Week 7 that could propel James Franklin’s team even higher in the AP Top 25 and into the College Football Playoff discussion. They also play both Michigan schools before the end of October to set up more statement opportunities for the AP voters and the selection committee.
