Auburn is going to fall three to five spots in the AP Top 25, though they will remain on the cusp of the top 10 heading into their Week 7 bye. The 11-point loss against a top-10 Florida team was, on one hand, a lot closer for much of the contest than the final score indicates. At the same time, there was a discernible gulf between the two SEC opponents that exposed some of the youth on which the Tigers rely so heavily.
Bo Nix finished 11-of-27 and tossed three interceptions, as the freshman was finally unable to outplay his inconsistency and suffered the first defeat of his career as a college starter. JaTarvious Whitlow was unable to get into the endzone, and the defense gave up nearly 400 yards of offense to the Gators.
Auburn gets a week off to regroup before closing out the month with back-to-back road trips to Arkansas and LSU. If they can escape the month with a 7-1 record, Gus Malzahn’s crew will vault right back up into the top 10. Another loss, though, is going to eliminate them from the SEC West race and a shot at the College Football Playoff.
