College Football Rankings 2019: Projected Top 25, Week 7 – Florida climbs
By Zach Bigalke
After nearly watching their shot at an undefeated season go up in flames against North Carolina, a close call that dropped the Tigers one spot in the AP Top 25, Clemson got a much-needed rest in Week 6. Dabo Swinney’s crew has been a shell of the dominant team that won last season’s College Football Playoff, and they will use the bye to try to recapture that magic.
Trevor Lawrence has been a major reason why Clemson looks ordinary this year. The sophomore has slumped from the peaks he hit as a freshman, having already thrown more interceptions in one month than he did all last season. Lawrence has seen his completion rate drop more than three points, and he looks mechanically undisciplined far too often when throwing the ball. Clemson’s defense has at least been solid as usual, which is why the Tigers headed into their first bye week still undefeated.
After the break, they host Florida State to start off an October slate that also includes Louisville and Boston College. With the teams right behind them looking in the poll looking impressive this week, Clemson might drop a spot or two behind Ohio State and possibly Georgia as well. If they have any further stutters before November, Clemson might fall another spot or two over the next few weeks.
