Iowa State Football: 3 takeaways from blowout win over TCU

2. The Cyclones ruled the line of scrimmage
Yards per is a stat that can tell you a lot about what’s going on along the line of scrimmage. The Cyclones averaged over 10 yards per pass and over 5.0 yards a carry. That tells you two things about the Cyclone offense.
First, quarterback Brock Purdy had time to find receivers downfield. Second, Iowa State’s runners were at the second level all game long. The Cyclone front pushed TCU’s front around all game long.
The irony is the Horned Frogs’ strength was supposed to be along their defensive line.
Speaking of defensive lines and yards per, TCU averaged 7.4 yards per pass and 3.3 yards per rush. This tells me TCU hit some chunk plays, but the pocket might not have been as clean, and Iowa State did a good job of keeping their linebackers clean to make plays in the run game.
