Louisville football hosted Boston College looking for its first ACC win of the season and the Cardinals got just that on Saturday afternoon.

You know the expression “when you have two quarterbacks, you have none”? Well, that may not exactly be true for Louisville as it rode two gunslingers to a two-point home win over Boston College on Saturday afternoon.

Coming into the game, the Cardinals were 0-1 in ACC play and looking to get back on the positive side of an overall record while the Eagles were 1-1 and looking to make a statement. Louisville was able to hold on for the win in this hotly-contested back-and-forth battle, heading into Week 7 with a 3-2 record.

What’d we learn from the Cardinals’ first ACC win of the year?

3. Defense has some work to do

It wasn’t a pretty effort from the defense against a Boston College team that had been struggling this season as the Cardinals allowed 563 total yards and 39 points.

AJ Dillon got back on track with a 100-yard game and Anthony Brown started the game red-hot, going 6-for-7 with 193 yards and a touchdown, torching the Cardinals’ secondary. He was injured and replaced by Dennis Grosel who was held to 9-of-24 passing for 111 yards and three touchdowns, but Boston College had over 300 yards through the air.

On the ground, Louisville couldn’t stop anything. The Eagles rushed 45 times for 259 yards and a touchdown which is a heck of an average for a struggling team.

Boston College isn’t exactly an offensive juggernaut, but Louisville’s defense made it look that way and that has to change.
