4. Red zone offense remains perfect

There is no mistaking the fact that LSU has turned the tables on how they play games. The offense is now the juggernaut of the team. The days of winning games with a score of 17-10 are over. Now the Tigers are putting up 40 plus per game.

The biggest reason for the hike in offensive performance has been the red zone efficiency. There isn’t anyone better in the country at scoring when they get inside the 25. In fact, LSU has more red zone opportunities than anyone in the country with 27 and they are perfect on the season with 27 scores.

In my opinion, the reason for their success has two factors. The first factor is the play calling. They have been extremely balanced when they enter the opponents 25 yard line. They have 11 passing touchdowns on the season as well as 11 rushing touchdowns on the season in the red zone. Not allowing the defensive side of the ball to key on either has been the theme of defensive coordinator nightmares.

The second reason for success in the red zone for LSU has to be the ball protection. Joe Burrow has done a terrific job of not putting the ball in harms way. The tigers running backs have also kept the ball off of the ground in the red zone.

Nothing changes the momentum of a game worse than a red zone turnover. Maybe that’s the reason why the offensive side of the ball has had so much success. I look for that success to continue. The LSU offense will remain perfect in red zone scoring.
