LSU football dominated Utah State on Saturday afternoon to remain undefeated and in the playoff race. What’d we learn from the Tigers’ win?
Utah State came into Baton Rouge as nearly four-touchdown underdogs. Despite being one of the top teams in the Mountain West, they knew they were going up against their toughest competition, the No. 5-ranked LSU Tigers.
No one expect Utah State to win, but there were some people who expected the Aggies’ offense to score some points against LSU’s defense. However, they only had six points halfway through the fourth quarter as LSU boasted 42. The backups for LSU came in at this point of the ball game.
Even though LSU dominated, the Aggies made the Tigers earn it and fought the entire game. What’d we learn from LSU’s big win?
3. Jordan Love showed why he could be a first-rounder
LSU dominated in every facet of the game and had its best defensive performance of the season. During the week, the talk was that LSU was going to score a lot of points, but so was Jordan Love and Utah State’s offense. Well, they were right about one thing, LSU scored a lot of points, but the Aggies had little to boast about.
Despite the Aggies not getting much on the board and Jordan Love not having a “great” game statistically, I thought he still showed why he is so highly thought of as a quarterback. He threw several interceptions, but at the same time had some NFL throws. One of his throws on a skinny post route would have been an easy touchdown for the Aggies, but his receiver dropped it.
Love also had one of the prettiest throws of the day as he rolled out to escape pressure and delivered a beautiful ball down field, which was on of the only positive plays for the Aggie offense.
So despite the Aggies struggling, when Love and Co. get back to conference play, they should be just fine.
