Oklahoma Football: 3 takeaways from Week 6 road win vs. Kansas
By Zach Bigalke
1. Rhamondre Stevenson is a scoring machine
For the fifth straight game, junior running back Rhamondre Stevenson scored a touchdown for Oklahoma in limited time on the field. Getting fewer than 10 carries in each of the first four games of the year, Stevenson scored against Houston, South Dakota, UCLA and Texas Tech to help the Sooners pull off win after big win.
That trend did not change in Lawrence. Coming in later in the contest, Stevenson immediately got to work. Making his first appearance on first and goal from the 10 with 10:47 left in the third quarter, Stevenson pushed the ball five yards before Hurts finished off the drive with a rushing score. On the ensuing Oklahoma offensive series, he added a 35-yard run and a four-yard burst to help lead the Sooners to another touchdown.
Just about one quarter later down to the second, Stevenson finally got his touchdown in the fourth quarter. Getting the handoff at the Oklahoma 39, he burst through the hole straight up the middle, bulled into two Kansas defenders and shook them up more than he felt, and then darted to the left for a 61-yard score. That wrapped up a five-carry, 109-yard day where Stevenson also added an 11-yard reception on a swing pass.
While Trey Sermon remains entrenched as the starter in the Sooners backfield, Stevenson is likely to continue to see an increase in playing time as he looks to extend his streak of games with a touchdown run against Texas next week at the Cotton Bowl.
