Wisconsin football dominated the Kent State Golden Flashes 48-0 at Camp Randall Stadium. Here are three takeaways from this afternoon’s game.

The Badgers beat up on an inferior team once again defeating the Kent State Golden Flashes 48-0, and looked good doing it. Jonathan Taylor was, well, Jonathan Taylor once again with his 27th 100-yard rushing game in 32 starts.

The defense was stout allowing 124 total yards. With Michigan State coming to Camp Randall next week, and a game at the ‘Shoe in a few weeks against Ohio State, what’d we learn about this Wisconsin team?

3. Jack Coan efficient again

There are some sports prognosticators that compare Jack Coan to Jake Fromm of Georgia. There are some comparable attributes between each quarterback. They are well prepped, take what the defense gives them, and do what is asked in run-centric offenses. Today was no different. He wasn’t asked to throw often, but when he did, Coan was efficient throwing only three incomplete passes. He even completed two passes of over 20 yards. They’ll need him to be efficient, and hit shots down field against the Spartans and the Buckeyes.

2. Speed on the edges

Wisconsin’s speed at defensive end and linebacker is impressive. The Golden Flashes couldn’t turn the corner at all trying to run wide against the Badgers. It was even worse when they attempted to move the pocket against the Badgers defensive line. All in all it was an eight-sack day for the Badgers. Their star linebackers Zach Baun and Chris Orr have to show up next week and against Ohio State.

1. You move me

This is perhaps the pivotal place on the field that Wisconsin needs to have a chance against he Buckeyes and Spartans. The Badgers go whatever they wanted offensively against the undermanned Golden Flashes. They pushed Kent State’s smallish defensive line around all game long.

On defense, they pushed around Kent State’s inferior offensive line as well. They won’t do that next week, but they’ll need to neutralize the Spartan front so Jonathan Taylor can run free, and they can have balance since Michigan State will stack the box and key on Taylor running the ball.
