With Tua and the Crimson Tide resting in their bye week, players had the chance to jump him in the Heisman Trophy power rankings. Did they succeed?

With many teams now having played half of their regular season games, it is safe to say that the Heisman Trophy race is well underway. Some teams are finally hitting midseason form, while some players have been there since early September. With so many players breaking records and catching eyes, who took the top of the Heisman Trophy power rankings?

Last week, I had Tua Tagovailoa at the top after a six-touchdown performance. This week, Tua and the Tide had a bye. With him off the screen for an entire week, it was the perfect opportunity for some players to jump him. Did anyone do enough to do so?

Before we fill out the top of the rankings, let’s start with two players who didn’t make the cut.

Honorable mentions

Chase Young, EDGE, Ohio State

If you are one of the many fans who believe that defensive players deserve to win the Heisman just as much as players on offense, you have probably already made your case for Chase Young. He doesn’t need you to make a case, though. He makes one for himself.

This is the edge that helped Buckeye fans forget who Nick Bosa was last season. He has all the traits that should cement his stake as the first player drafted in the NFL Draft. However, he simply doesn’t have the perfect alignment to win the award.

Chuba Hubbard, RB, Oklahoma State

Chuba Hubbard has been one of the most impressive running backs in college football. However, an Oklahoma State running back will need a perfect storm to make it to New York. He needs highlight games every week, and he just didn’t do enough this week to crack in the top five. However he is playing like the second-best running back in college football so far this year. Maybe he will keep that up.
