1. Clay Helton fired, Mike Jinks named interim

We don’t call them bold predictions for nothing. It’s inevitable, Clay Helton will be fired, but the burning question is, when?

I’m going to go off a limb here and say sooner than later. Listen, Lynn Swann resigned for a reason. His presence led to multiple problems, including two FBI investigations and a Clay Helton contract extension. No one in that administration liked Swann. The boosters wanted him gone, that is clear.

So, now that he is gone it gives USC the perfect opportunity to search for a coach without someone getting in the way. Athletic directors, especially the ones without any experience, find it difficult to land the right man for the job. Is it just me or am I the only one that sometimes wonder why ADs struggle to do their job?

The boosters will be doing the shopping this time around. And quite frankly, they already have their guy. Regardless if the Trojan’s president likes it or not, Urban Meyer will be the first person to be contacted. There’s just too much writing on the wall.

I highly expect Clay Helton to be canned at the end of October or the beginning of November. Mike Jinks, current USC running backs coach and former Bowling Green head coach, will be named interim. This allows the administration to begin vetting around for a possible replacement before the new AD, whomever that may be, takes the job.

Put it this way, the new AD of the University of Southern California will be a George W. Bush figure. Someone who stands and smiles while the big business is handled in the back. USC is too much of a respected program to be put away by political figures. The boosters will make sure that the Trojans are once again kings of the Pac-12.
