2. The Miami passing game was once again slow to get going

N’Kosi Perry got the start on Friday night, with Jarren Williams nursing a shoulder injury. But the redshirt sophomore was unable to do much against the Cavaliers until things finally started to fall into place in the fourth quarter, and the Hurricanes were able to pull away in the end thanks to that belated surge by Perry and the passing game.

Through three quarters, Perry threw for only 74 yards. The quarterback finished with 182 yards through the air on 16-of-27 passing, with an early touchdown pass allowing the Hurricanes to play from the lead for most of the contest. Thanks to that surge in the final frame, his numbers looked far better than they did through the first 45 minutes. Perry also added a rushing touchdown with 2:31 left to ice the contest for the Hurricanes.

K.J. Osborn led the way with four catches for 60 yards. Brevin Jordan caught a pair of passes for 48 yards, including the longest reception of the night on a 35-yard catch-and-run. In the end, Perry spread the ball around to six different receivers.

The quarterback situation is far from settled in Coral Gables. Perry will probably get the starts as long as Williams remains sidelined, but when he returns there could be some controversy for Manny Diaz and offensive coordinator Dan Enos.
