Wake Forest football fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with a home loss to the Louisville Cardinals in Winston-Salem. What’d we learn?

The way the the Demon Deacons and the Cardinals were running up and down the field they needed sprinter spikes not football cleats. This game went up and down the field and defense was optional as the Cardinals outlasted the Demon Deacons 62-59 in Winston-Salem.

Both teams combined for almost 1,200 yards of total offense and 121 points in this game. Each team did this playing their backup quarterbacks for significant time. In fact, both backup quarterbacks finished the game.

Louisville jumped out to a 21-7 lead against the Demon Deacons, and never trailed — though the Deacons made it interesting.

What’d we learn from the hotly-contested game?

3. Louisville is trending up

Scott Satterfield has the Louisville Cardinals trending in the right direction as a program, and these types of games show just why that is.

This was not a perfect performance by any stretch — they gave up 59 points after all — but the Cardinals found a way to win. They didn’t get down when Wake Forest started to come back, or when their starting quarterback wen down with an injury. They kept scoring and found a way to stay ahead of the Demon Deacons.

Watch out, ACC, Louisville is going to be a problem for years to come.
