Alabama football smacked Texas A&M around for 60 minutes and improved to 6-0 on the season. Let’s overreact to the Tide’s blowout win.
Some believed Texas A&M might give Alabama a little more trouble than anticipated in Week 7. The Aggies may have only boasted a 3-2 record, but they looked like a team that had the talent and home-field advantage to pull off a mammoth upset.
That wasn’t the case as Tua Tagovailoa and Co. rolled over Texas A&M at Kyle Field and silenced the 12th Man.
Nick Saban wasn’t all smiles afterward (no surprise there), but he has to feel good about the 46-27 win and the fact that his team is 6-0 and playing some elite football — at least on offense.
Let’s overreact to this win.
3. Defense still leaving plenty to be desired
I get the concerns some people are having with some of the presumed top defenses in the SEC such as LSU and Alabama, but there’s nothing to be worried about because they’re giving up a decent amount of points to quality opponents.
OK, so Alabama did give up 31 points to Ole Miss and 23 to South Carolina before allowing 27 to Texas A&M, but the Tide are still allowing an average of 17 per contest. They have one of the best defenses in the country and sometimes it’ll allow 20-30 points against decent opponents. The Ole Miss output was a little shocking, but Alabama bounced back to hold everyone not named Kellen Mond in check on Saturday.
In fact, Mond had 354 total yards and two touchdowns and the Aggies had 389 total yards. The junior quarterback has been known to give good defenses fits over the years, so there’s no need to panic about the Tide’s ability to slow opponents down.
Alabama still has an elite defense, there’s no doubt about it.
