Pac-12 Football Power Rankings, Week 8: Bow down to Jayden Daniels
By Kyle Grondin
A blessing that UCLA had a bye week, as it made college football much more enjoyable not seeing the state of Chip Kelly. This team is just a rough watch at this point, except for against a Washington State defense that looks like it will struggle against a high school JV defense now.
For reference, Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw for over 500 yards in that win, and is still No. 98 in the country in QBR. That’s not good.
There wasn’t much hope for Oregon State against Utah, but that got ugly quickly. Isaiah Hodgins continues to be a real bright spot for the Beavers, with 709 yards on the season. He’s still a Biletnikoff Award candidate.
What a stinker for the Buff’s in this one. They were heavy underdogs in the game against Oregon, but you figured the offense would put up a better performance than that.
Steven Montez was particularly awful, with only 131 yards and four interceptions. This was a big moment for his draft stock on a larger stage against a good defense, and he disappointed in that one.
Colorado is reeling now, dropping three of their last four. They’ll head on the road to face another reeling team.
Colorado will face the team currently sitting last in the Pac-12 standings, the Washington State Cougars.
This defense is just awful. Giving up 143 points in three conference games. They dearly miss Jalen Thompson, who departed for the NFL over the summer in the supplemental draft.
If you’re a betting person, I’d highly recommend taking the Washington State vs. Colorado over, even if it’s in the 90s. This game will be a shootout that neither defense will keep up with.
