There’s been movement in the watch. Who’s gone? Who’s moved in? College football’s Group of Five race for the New Year’s Six is heating up.

Here at the watch finding a worthy candidate is often easier said than done. Why you may ask? At the watch, one loss — depending on the opponent or severity — eliminates you. This is not contradictory to the list.

There’s an old college football adage that rings true, “It’s better to lose early than late.” Cincinnati has a loss, but is a top contender. It’s because that loss is to Ohio State who might be this year’s national champion. Tulane has a loss to what might be a 9 or 10-win Auburn team.

There were some teams that were being observed by the watch, but did not make the cut and are eliminated from joining the watch.

Army’s loss to Western Kentucky ensured we will not get a “Knight’s Watch” this postseason. There are still some who are in line to make the watch. The Owls from the province of Temple are looking to come back to the watch. The Bulldogs from the southern kingdom of Louisiana Tech are being watched from afar. The Aztecs from the San Diego State tribe deserve a look from a distance.

It’s difficult to make the watch and especially difficult to stay on it.

If you make it, it’s a post you’ve earned; break your oath and you are forever banished forth with from the watch. All kingdoms, provinces, and tribes prepare — New Year’s is coming.

Here are the Week 8 members of the watch.
