5. player. 843. . . (5-1). vs. Arizona State. Utah Utes

A huge Pac-12 South showdown takes place Saturday night as Arizona State travels to take on Utah. The Utes are a significant favorite at 13 points.

Utah is rolling into this game at 5-1 with their lone loss being at USC. The Utes do not have a truly impressive victory on their resume so far, their best being against a now 3-3 Washington State. Quarterback Tyler Huntley has been impressive, however, throwing for nearly 1400 yards, nine touchdowns and he has yet to throw an interception. The Ute defense has also been good, allowing 13 points per game and they are particularly stingy against the run.

Not too many people, this humble writer included, thought the Herm Edwards era at Arizona State would amount to much of anything. So far Edwards has done well, compiling a 12-7 record in a season and a half. Right now the Sun Devils are 5-1 and are in prime position in the Pac-12 South race. The Sun Devils own two victories over top 25 ranked teams, at least at the time against Michigan State and California.

The Utes have a pretty impressive defense, but this is the week it will be tested by outstanding freshman quarterback Jayden Daniels. If the Sun Devils can keep a balanced attack going with Daniels and lead running back Eno Benjamin, they will keep it closer than the oddsmakers are predicting. We are picking the Sun Devils win outright though for the upset.
