Oklahoma football has found itself in the top five in the country. Will the Sooners be able to focus on West Virginia and not overlook the Mountaineers?

Oklahoma Football has reached No. 5 in the national polls and continues to show why they are one of the most impressive teams in the whole country.

Beating out No. 11 Texas last week in a convincing win in the Red River Shootout, the Sooners find themselves as one of the best teams in the country. They will play a West Virginia team on Saturday at home that has struggled overall but has shown some promise on offense at times.

Jalen Hurts led the charge last week with over 370 yards of total offense and four touchdowns in a 34-27 win at the Cotton Bowl. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was the surprise breakout player of the shootout, accounting for over 170 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Lamb could not be stopped against Texas as he had multiple broken tackles on catches that were behind the line of scrimmage.

This is a classic let down game for the Sooners coming off a huge emotional win against a Texas team that was knocking on the door for a top ten spot. After winning against the Longhorns which was circled on the calendar for months and months, how will the Sooners respond this week?

West Virginia comes into the game 3-3 with two straight losses against Iowa State and Texas at home. The offense has looked like an offense that could really make you nervous as an opposing defense at times, and others looking like they have much to be desired. It will be a great mental test for the Sooners on Saturday.

Keys to Victory

Oklahoma is one of the hottest teams right now and it is no surprise that Lincoln Reilly has his team in position to compete for another national championship. Scoring over 50 points a game with an average of 621 total yards on offense is a huge reason why the Sooners are where they are at 6-0. The surprise last week was the defense stepping up in many ways, we will see if they can continue that streak to shut the Mountaineers down.

West Virginia has had one of those up and down seasons at 3-3. They have passed the ball well but have not had anything going for them on the ground in multiple games effecting all sorts of their matchups. We will see a good Mountaineer secondary go up against one of the best receivers in all of college football, shutting down Lamb will be the key for WVU.

Prediction

The Sooners are rolling right now and I don’t know if there is anyone that could stop them at home today. With West Virginia coming into town and Oklahoma coming off their biggest win of the season, we will see more of a mental game from the Sooners more than anything. We will see if they can avoid a let down after a huge win.

Oklahoma has shown just how good they are on the outside and even with the great WVU secondary, they are most likely going to challenge the defense up top. Lamb is going to keep doing his thing and running past people for an Oklahoma win, but don’t sleep on West Virginia as they can still compete.

Final Score: Oklahoma 38, West Virginia 10
