Oklahoma State Football: 3 keys to victory vs. Baylor in Week 8
By John Scimeca
Are things ripe for an upset as No. 18-ranked Baylor visit Stillwater in hopes of preserving their undefeated 2019 season vs. Oklahoma State football?
For Oklahoma State fans, the 2019 season now stands at a perilous crossroads, and it’s been an agonizing wait for the next game after Week 6’s ugly 45-35 loss to Texas Tech.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Spencer Sanders committed five turnovers (three interceptions and two lost fumbles), while the entire Red Raiders team committed none. OSU dropped its second Big 12 game of the year after a promising home victory against Kansas State.
It was an unpleasant Pokes performance in Week 6 that was reminiscent of 2018, in which OSU played to the level of its competition — consider two wins against Top 15 teams and a one-point loss to OU. This year, the Cowboys played Texas tough in a 36-30 road defeat, but the loss to Texas Tech put things in a new and disturbingly familiar perspective.
The Bears, as the Big 12 schedule would have it, are fresh off a Week 7 victory at home against those same Red Raiders. A back-and-forth fourth quarter filled with untimely turnovers and spectacular catches gave way to a dramatic double-overtime win for Baylor.
For OSU, this Week 8 homecoming contest against Baylor is a chance to banish the demons of a disappointing 2018 season. The Cowboys lost six games to conference foes last year, including Texas Tech and Baylor. A win against the Bears on Saturday would go a long way in allaying the fears of Oklahoma State fans that another .500 regular season or worse awaits.
