3. The White Out game

No Game of Thrones is not coming back. However there will be a sea of white Saturday night at Beaver Stadium. It is Penn State’s annual White Out game.

The White Out is one of the best traditions in college football. The atmosphere is quite the spectacle with all but the visiting fans dressed in all white. Of course the student section in the south endzone is the loudest, however the whole stadium rocks. A Penn State White Out should be on any college football fan’s bucket list.

The tradition traces its origins back to 2004 when the student section was encouraged to wear all white for a clash with Purdue, a 20-13 loss. This later grew into a full stadium White Out, which first took place in 2007 versus Notre Dame, a 31-10 win. Saturday’s game versus Michigan marks the 13th full stadium White Out. The Lions are 6-6 in full stadium White Out games.

The Lions used to play other opponents for these games, but since 2012 the opponent has alternated between Michigan and Ohio State. Penn State is 3-2 against Michigan in these games. The wins include 2013’s thrilling 43-40 victory in four overtimes and 2017’s 42-13 drubbing of the Wolverines behind Saquon Barkley’s three touchdowns.

So while the Lions are at .500 overall in White Out games, it is still a huge game and a big advantage for the home team. The crowd will certainly try to their best to affect the outcome and rattle the Wolverines. Penn State will feed off the atmosphere and play inspired.
