1. Iowa State is a true contender in the Big 12

Despite the slow start to the season, Iowa State has figured things out and is heading back toward Big 12 relevancy one week at a time.

With the win, Iowa State improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play with a lone loss coming on the road against an unbeaten Baylor team which has been the biggest surprise in the conference thus far. That loss was almost a victory as well as the Cyclones came from behind only to lose on a late field goal.

Iowa State’s two losses this season are by a combined three points and have come against two teams ranked in the AP Top 25.

Sure, the Cyclones needed overtime to beat Northern Iowa to start the season, but they have shaken off the rust, Brock Purdy looks like an elite quarterback and the defense stepped up when it needed to against the red-hot Red Raiders.
