TCU Football: 3 takeaways from ugly loss at Kansas State
1. Neither team looked like a contender
At the beginning of the season, it looked like both TCU and Kansas State were going to surprise folks and contend for a Big 12 title. That’s no longer the case.
If TCU was able to top the Wildcats on Saturday in Manhattan in impressive fashion, my tune would have changed, but right now neither looks like they’re even close to contending. Both may have two losses and not exactly be cut from the conference title race officially, but it’s fairly clear that they don’t have what it takes to contend with the likes of Oklahoma or Texas — or even Baylor and Iowa State.
The Wildcats don’t have much of an offense just yet, but Chris Klieman will change that in his time at the helm. It’ll take a couple more years for Kansas State to be among the conference’s contenders, though.
Gary Patterson, too, has a big turnaround job on his hands, but it’s more so because of players he’s lost in recent years as well as injuries. Poor quarterback play has put a damper on this season.
Give it time and TCU and Kansas State will be back fighting for titles but that won’t happen this year.
