Boise State Football: 3 things we learned in first half of 2019
1. Hank Bachmeier is for real
Boise State had a quarterback battle all through the spring and into fall camp with redshirt sophomore Chase Cord, Jaylon Henderson and Hank Bachmeier. The latter came out of the quarterback battle victorious and took over the job for the first game against Florida State. Bachmeier has since racked up 1,547 yards passing and nine touchdowns in just six games.
The true freshman went down against Hawaii with an apparent leg injury in Week 7 and did not play against BYU in Week 8. While Bachmeier was sidelined for the rivalry game, Boise State struggled and did not look the same on offense all night long. When the Broncos fell short in week 8, it all but solidified just how much the true freshman means to the Boise State football team.
Bachmeier has been one of the most pressured quarterbacks in the NCAA, taking a beating in the backfield. Ironically, he was not hurt on a sack, but instead a scramble for a first down against Hawaii.
The Broncos looked lost without Bachmeier running the show on Saturday and will look for their freshman to get healthy after a bye week to face off against San Jose State.
