The final Saturday of October has some intriguing college football matchups on deck. What teams should be beware of the upstart underdog?

We are only a couple weeks away from the release of the first set of College Football Playoff rankings. In addition to the rankings, the races for conference championships are starting to crystallize around only a handful of teams as some contenders become long shots or have been eliminated completely. Week 9 is upon us and with it comes an interesting set of games.

For the second time this season, we were skunked in our upset picks. The closest game was picking Washington over Oregon. The Huskies had a 10-point lead late in the third quarter but the Ducks scored the final 14 points to seal the victory and keep their slim playoff hopes alive.

Upset of the week, and to this point in the season upset of the year, clearly goes to Illinois over Wisconsin. The Badgers had a nine point lead with under eight minutes to go when the Illini used two turnovers to score the game’s final 10 points and earn the shocking victory. The Badger loss took some of the luster off their match-up with the Buckeyes this week and severely damaged their playoff chances.

We will try to do better this week. Week 9 upset picks feature a couple ranked match-ups and a couple games that have very close point spreads, provided by The Action Network. Do not be fooled though as the picks would be considered upsets if they occur.

Let’s take a look at the five teams on upset alert this week.
