College Football 2019: 5 teams that will be on upset alert in Week 9
By Shane Lunnen
A big SEC West showdown takes place Saturday afternoon in Baton Rouge as LSU takes on Auburn. The Bayou Tigers are 11-point favorites over their Tiger counterparts.
LSU is looking good at 7-0. They are fresh off a 23-point road victory over Mississippi State and two weeks removed from a 14 point victory over Florida. Their offense is humming right along, scoring 50 points a game and ranked second in the nation in putting up 385 passing yards per game. Quarterback Joe Burrow is playing at a high level and is firmly in the Heisman race if not the top contender at the moment.
Auburn enters the game at 6-1, with their only loss to Florida. Auburn’s strength on offense is their rushing attack, but they also rely heavily on their defense. Their defensive front is a wall. The Tigers allow less than a 100 yards per game on the ground and give up only 17 points per game. This is a stout defense that has the tools to slow down a high powered offense like LSU’s.
Auburn will need a huge defensive effort to pull this off, but they know their backs are against the wall. Lose here and they can kiss their SEC championship hopes goodbye. A win keeps them in the conversation. Expect Auburn’s best effort in the Bayou and perhaps even an upset.
