18. What have been the most surprising conference losses?

During the month of October, the Big Ten has not had a ton of upsets and surprises but they have had some. There were some more surprising than others but overall not as many shocking upsets overall in compared to the two past seasons for teams in conference play.

  1. Illinois 24, Wisconsin 23: Easily the most shocking upset thus far.
  2. Penn State 17, Iowa 12: Iowa plays really well at home but Penn State stole one.
  3. Wisconsin 35, Michigan 14: The Badgers shocked many with their dominating performance.
  4. Minnesota 34, Nebraska 7: The Gophers surprised many beating Nebraska convincingly.
  5. Penn State 59, Maryland 0: Penn State shut out Maryland when the Terrapins were playing well.

17. What are the best five games to end the month of October?

  1. Wisconsin at Ohio State: It could have been the battle of the undefeated teams from the two favorites to win their divisions but it still is a great game to watch to end the month due to both teams still in the hunt for a playoff spot.
  2. Notre Dame at Michigan: This game to lost some of its original luster with the Wolverines already having two losses and the Irish not being undefeated but it should be an entertaining game between two non-conference rivals.
  3. Penn State at Michigan State: The Nittany Lions have exceeded preseason expectations while the Spartans have not lived up to their preseason hype. Many are calling this a trap game for Penn State, so it should be an interesting game to watch.
  4. Maryland at Minnesota: If the Gophers win this game and Wisconsin loses at Ohio State, Minnesota will have a two game lead on the Badgers in the Big Ten West. Maryland will have some starters back healthy for this game, so a win for the Gophers would be huge.
  5. Indiana at Nebraska: Indiana has five wins on the season and Nebraska has four. This game has big implications for both programs moving forward as both teams look to make the next step toward Big Ten relevance.
