Iowa State football hosted Oklahoma State looking to stay alive in the Big 12 title race heading into the final month. What’d we learn from this showdown?

This was supposed to be a sure-win for Iowa State to reach bowl eligibility at home against a team that had fallen off since being bounced from the AP Top 25, but that didn’t quite happen.

Oklahoma State was the better team all afternoon long and came away with a 34-27 win in Ames. The Cowboys overcame a tough recent stretch to beat one of the hottest teams in the Big 12 and remain alive in the race for a spot in the Big 12 title game.

What’d we learn from Iowa State’s battle with Oklahoma State?

3. Oklahoma State’s big three lives up to the hype

In case you’re not aware, Oklahoma State has one of the more underrated “big threes” in all of college football. Freshman Spencer Sanders has been solid at quarterback, Chuba Hubbard might be the best running back in the nation and Tylan Wallace is one of the country’s best receivers.

These receivers get a lot of attention, and deservedly so. They lived up to that hype on Saturday afternoon with big days from each.

Sanders was 16-of-24 with 249 yards and two touchdowns and wasn’t fazed by the road atmosphere in Ames. He didn’t make many bad throws and was accurate all day long. Hubbard, who many believe is emerging as the country’s top back, had 116 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries and Wallace caught eight passes for 131 yards and a touchdown.

The big three lived up to the hype.
