Penn State football held on for a three-touchdown win at Spartan Stadium to break their East Lansing curse. What did we learn about the Nittany Lions?

On a drizzly day at Spartan Stadium, Penn State came out and toppled Michigan State 28-7 in midday Saturday action in Week 9. With the win, the Nittany Lions claimed their first victory in East Lansing since 2009. It was a solid performance on both sides of the ball that sets up the Nittany Lions for a run at the Big Ten East title.

After close calls against Iowa and Michigan in October, James Franklin’s team put together a complete performance that kept them in the hunt alongside Ohio State as the last two undefeated teams standing in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes appear to be on a collision course with Penn State as the two teams keep winning and consolidating position in the top five.

It was exactly the sort of showing that Penn State needed, as they easily covered the six-point spread set by the oddsmakers. A bit concerning was the fact that things cooled off in the second half once again for the Nittany Lions after a hot start to the game, but in the end the final result was exactly what the boys from State College needed on a day when other unbeaten teams were falling out of the top 10.

What did we learn about the Nittany Lions on Saturday afternoon on the road? Here are three things to take away from the blowout of Michigan State.
