USC football visited Colorado on Friday night in Boulder. Here are three takeaways from the Pac-12 clash at Folsom Field in Colorado.

Farmer Fran told Bobby Boucher in the cinema classic The Waterboy “We live to fight another day.” The USC Trojans live to fight another day. Clay Helton gets to coach another day.

The USC Trojans traveled to the high elevation of Folsom Field and cam away with a tough win in Boulder. The Trojans came into this game with fourteen players injured. This was a game in which they battled adversity, but still came away with the win.

True freshman quarterback Kedon Slovis was the football equivalent of a point guard, finding six different receivers throwing for 406 yards and four touchdowns. The Trojans found themselves trailing by two possessions heading into the fourth quarter, but the defense — that was bad all game — didn’t allow a score in the final frame and the Slovis-led Trojan offense came up big when it mattered most scoring 14 points in the fourth to come away with the four-point win.

Competitors don’t want to hear about moral victories. However, the Buffaloes played well for most of this game. In fact there were stretches where the Buffaloes outplayed the Trojans. They simply ran out of gas.

Quarterback Steven Montez took a hit in the fourth quarter and wasn’t the same when he came back into the game. The Colorado defense, which played well most of the game, looked gassed with all the talent depth the Trojans have offensively. Laviska Shenault Jr. had a monster game for the Buffs who are buying into what Colorado is selling.

The Trojans pick up a key victory to keep pace in the Pac-12 heading into a tough game next week against the Oregon Ducks. This was a tough loss for Colorado who still have bowl game aspirations.

Here are three more takeaways from the big game.
