Two of the top 15 teams in college football fell in Week 9 to turn the Big 12 race on its head. Here is the impact of those losses on the Week 10 AP Top 25.
Six ranked teams were on a bye over the final weekend of October, effectively secure in the AP Top 25 as they avoided any risk of chaos raining down upon them. The one team among the sextet with the biggest risk of falling out of the polls was No. 25 Wake Forest, which was a surprise re-entry into the Top 25 after narrowly escaping Florida State in Week 8 and entered Week 9 just 31 points ahead of Memphis.
But Wake Forest had no reason to worry, as there was plenty of chaos all around them. The Big 12 was the biggest recipient of the havoc, as both No. 5 Oklahoma and No. 15 Texas dropped upsets on the road against Kansas State and TCU respectively.
The Sooners will probably fall somewhere around 10 spots after taking their first loss of the year against an unranked Wildcats squad, while the Longhorns are projected to fall completely out of the poll after falling to 5-3 on the season. Iowa State is also due to drop out of the poll after the Cyclones suffered their third loss of the year against Oklahoma State.
That opens the door for more new teams to vault back up into the rankings, either in a return visit or for the first time this season. With the Big 12 continuing to shoot itself in the foot, the biggest beneficiary might be the top Group of Five league in the country. Keep reading to see where we have everyone projected for the next release of the AP Top 25 on Sunday afternoon.
