2. Mike Gundy has his moxie back

The whispers abounded among OSU fans during the past few weeks that Gundy had lost his touch, that maybe he was growing complacent after 15 years in charge in Stillwater. Coupled with a 6-6 regular-season finish in 2018, a difficult loss to Texas Tech (the Red Raiders’ only conference win so far) followed by a home defeat against Baylor this year indicated that OSU was losing ground in terms of Big 12 status.

Week 9’s win against Iowa State is a breath of fresh air. OSU was winless in its last six Big 12 road contests, dating back to the victory at Kansas in 2018. Despite the lackluster performances of the past two seasons, OSU now has six wins against ranked teams in those 20 games.

It may be premature to declare that one win restores all of our confidence in Gundy. But, given his track record at OSU and the continued development of redshirt freshman quarterback Spencer Sanders (only one turnover against the Cyclones), it’s safe to say that Cowboy fans are feeling more optimistic about the direction of the program under the former Midwest City Bomber.

A road win against a Top 25 opponent should inspire that sort of confidence.
