6. 2008 Florida Gators

Before Urban Meyer built a perennial contender at Ohio State, he revived a Florida football program that was desperate for a National Championship. While doing so, he built one of the most talented rosters in college football history — the 2008 Florida Gators.

Imagine a roster consisting of Tim Tebow, Cam Newton (that’s right), Percy Harvin, Aaron Hernandez, Brandon Spikes, Joe Haden, Carlos Dunlap, Janoris Jenkins, David Nelson…need I go on? Those players alone could lead a team to a National Championship, but under the tutelage of Meyer? That’s a dynastic group.

This group went 13-1 en route to a BCS National Championship versus Oklahoma, and they did it in dominant fashion. The Gators averaged 43.6 points per game and allowed just 12.9 to their opponent’s — both of which ranked fourth-best in the nation during that season. Tebow was just a junior in 2008, and although Newton didn’t necessarily play for the Gators, he was still a sophomore with Heisman potential.
