Oklahoma State Football: 5 bold predictions for November 2019
By John Scimeca
5. Matt Ammendola continues perfect streak
OSU’s senior kicker has been a perfect 12-for-12 on field goals this season, including three makes from beyond 40 yards. Nationally, only eight other kickers have averaged at least one made field goal per game with a perfect completion rate.
OSU’s offense doesn’t necessarily hold possession for 10 minutes and drive the length of the field to score. It’s predicated on big plays by Chuba Hubbard and Tylan Wallace, and it’s been largely successful in its operations in 2019 — the offense ranks No. 9 nationally with more than 505 total yards per game.
As a team, OSU’s 10 interceptions ranks last in the Big 12. Only two power conference teams in the nation — Arkansas and Northwestern — have thrown more picks this season.
Clearly, improving OSU’s turnover rate can help OSU’s senior kicking star this year. Perhaps, it could even earn him consideration for the Lou Groza Award, given to the nation’s best kicker. OSU’s Dan Bailey also won the award in 2010.
Ammendola has proven that he can make kicks in a big moment and that he can carry the Cowboys; look his four-for-four field goal performance in the Cowboys’ 26-13 win against Kansas State, for instance. OSU fans should feel confident when Ammendola lines up to kick a late-game field goal.
