3. Protect the football

Boise State was hampered by turnovers in their game against BYU. The biggest reason why they took a loss in Provo, was their inability to protect the football. Backup quarterback Chase Cord threw two interceptions and it could have turned into a couple more if BYU was able to capitalize on some tipped passes.

Regardless of who takes the starting snaps on Saturday at quarterback, the Broncos will need to protect the football. San Jose State has 13 interceptions on the year and the secondary has feasted on bad throws from quarterbacks. The opportunistic Spartan defense will exploit the major weakness and Boise State can ill afford to give SJSU extra possessions.

The turnover issues have not been limited to the quarterback position either. Running backs for Boise State have struggled to hold on to the ball as well. The Broncos have fumbled twelve times in just seven games, but have been lucky enough to lose just five of those. Hopefully, the bye week helped the Broncos and they are able to clean up some of the more sloppy parts of their offense.
