SMU Football goes into Memphis on Saturday night as surprising underdogs. The Memphis Tigers jumped into the rankings after their wins against Tulsa and Tulane at No. 24. The 24th-ranked Tigers have started off the season 7-1 and looking for an outside shot at getting into the Group of Five conversations for the NY6 bowl.
Leading that conversation at the moment is the SMU Mustangs. The Mustangs come into the game a perfect 8-0 and have done everything they need to do in order to lead the Group of Five. Led by transfer quarterback Shane Buechele, SMU has been on fire. Buechele has thrown for over 2,300 yards and 20 touchdowns. In a shocking 2019 campaign, the Mustangs have looked at the part of their No. 15 ranking.

After getting a boost last weekend from TCU beating Texas, the Mustangs have quite the resume so far. SMU is still surprising underdogs in this matchup. Having to play on the road is always tough, but they have done everything so far to suggest that they can beat Memphis.
