SMU football takes its top-rated Group of Five football team into Memphis on Saturday. Will they be able to stay undefeated against the Tigers?

SMU Football goes into Memphis on Saturday night as surprising underdogs. The Memphis Tigers jumped into the rankings after their wins against Tulsa and Tulane at No. 24. The 24th-ranked Tigers have started off the season 7-1 and looking for an outside shot at getting into the Group of Five conversations for the NY6 bowl.

Leading that conversation at the moment is the SMU Mustangs. The Mustangs come into the game a perfect 8-0 and have done everything they need to do in order to lead the Group of Five. Led by transfer quarterback Shane Buechele, SMU has been on fire. Buechele has thrown for over 2,300 yards and 20 touchdowns. In a shocking 2019 campaign, the Mustangs have looked at the part of their No. 15 ranking.

the Mustangs take their high powered offense into Memphis now with the toughest task left on their schedule. After getting a boost last weekend from TCU beating Texas, the Mustangs have quite the resume so far. Scoring 43 points a game and having 500 yards on offense in each of those games, you can see why voters are high on SMU.

SMU is still surprising underdogs in this matchup. Having to play on the road is always tough, but they have done everything so far to suggest that they can beat Memphis. The Tigers will be able to put up a fight of their own having 470 yards of total offense a game and being on the best AAC teams. A lot is on the line for both squads for Saturday night. Here are three keys to victory for the Mustangs.
