Texas A&M football hosts UTSA for a bye week, of sorts, and the Aggies are looking to use this contest as a pick-me-up to start November.

Most teams in the SEC have interesting non-conference schedules with a layup in the middle of November and Texas A&M is no different.

The Aggies will host a 3-4 UTSA team that hasn’t given the FBS a true test this season. In fact, the Roadrunners faced one Power Five team and were blown out of the water, 63-14, against Baylor. Texas A&M is hoping to have the same luck and this is potentially just a confidence-booster before closing out the conference season.

Texas A&M is 5-3 with three losses against top-10 teams. No, that’s not all that bad, but when you consider one of those (Auburn) was a winnable home game, you have to be left wondering if Jimbo Fisher missed an opportunity. Still, 5-3 isn’t too shabby.

Let’s see what will happen as the Aggies likely reach 6-3 this weekend.

3. Isaiah Spiller reaches 100 yards

As a talented freshman, Isaiah Spiller was thrust into action this season when Jashaun Corbin went down with an injury. It was an unexpected bump in carries and he went from lightly-used to putting up at least 10 carries against Alabama, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

Still, outside of an early blowout against Lamar, Spiller has yet to truly have that breakout performance. He rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries against the Cardinals.

Expect a repeat of that performance against UTSA on Saturday afternoon.

Spiller is averaging 8.8 yards per carry against non-conference opponents this season and he’s been getting better by the week against tough competition. The Roadrunners are going to be no match for the first-year back from Spring, Texas. He’ll finish with 15 carries for 125 yards and two scores.
