1. Auburn almost got caught looking ahead

Auburn is approaching a bye week and the Tigers were looking forward to having some time off before coming back to face Georgia. While an SEC West title isn’t likely with Alabama and LSU ahead of the Tigers in the standings, finishing the season strong and earning a New Year’s Six berth is still one of the goals for Gus Malzahn and Co.

The Tigers can still win 10 games and head into the postseason with a New Year’s Six bid. It’d be an impressive accomplishment considering just how tough the schedule has been.

Malzahn’s hot seat has cooled off this season, especially with some quality wins and a tight loss in Baton Rouge against LSU. The Tigers nearly let their guard down on Saturday against a struggling Ole Miss team and that would have led to some questions about Malzahn’s ability to lead the program.

This was one of those classic trap games and Auburn nearly let the quarterback-less Rebels pull off the upset, but luckily John Rhys Plumlee threw the game away (quite literally) with a terrible interception on Ole Miss’ final drive.
