College GameDay is headed down to Memphis for a monster AAC matchup between Memphis and Tennessee. Who’ll be the guest picker?

College GameDay is taking an interesting trip down to Tennessee this week for a monster matchup between Memphis (7-1) and SMU (8-0). The winner gets bragging rights, a better position in the American Athletic Conference standings and a potential step ahead in the race for a New Year’s Six bowl.

But before any of that can take place, the GameDay crew will be hosting their annual show at 9 a.m. ET until noon with Lee Corso capping off the show with his headgear pick. While that usually draws the most attention, the celebrity guest picker is always exciting.

So with GameDay in Memphis, who did the crew decide to go with? Well, they went a familiar route, choosing a wrestler in Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler.

Those who don’t follow wrestling may not get the move — I don’t follow it, either, so I can relate — but Lawler is a Memphis legend and is one of those celebrities who has chosen to live in the city and represents it well. Giving back to the community is a big thing but so is picking an outlandish guest and apparently Lawler is just that.

While we might not see him in his true wrestler form, he will have a little bark back and forth with the rest of the cast, especially if Corso doesn’t don the Tiger headgear at the end.

Justin Timberlake would have been another interesting option as he’s from Memphis, but Lawler makes sense and he is a big enough name to draw some attention.
