Purdue football hosted the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday afternoon and came away with a gutsy win. What’d we learn from this Big Ten battle?

The Purdue Boilermakers, trying to get bowl eligible, won a back-and-forth contest against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Jack Plummer had a good game, throwing for 242 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game with an ankle injury. Adrian Martinez, on the other hand, struggled in this one with no touchdowns and an interception.

There were three lead changes in this one with the Boilermakers taking the lead the last time on a touchdown drive led by walk-on quarterback Aidan O’Connell.

Here are three takeaways from the game.

3. Elijah Sindelar might get “Wally Pipped”

For all of you youngsters that don’t know the story of Wall Pipp, he played for the Yankees, and went out of a game with an injury. He never played for the Yankees again because a young man named Lou Gehrig stepped in, and never gave up the position. There’s a possibility that senior quarterback Elijah Sindelar might come back in late November in time for the “Old Oaken Bucket Game” against Indiana and maybe even sooner.

However, the way his replacement Jack Plummer is playing, Sindelar might not get back in. Well, that is if Plummer plays again this season (which there is actually doubt).

During the game, the commentary team mentioned that Plummer “has the locker room.” He’s a natural leader that has garnered the respect of the locker room as a freshman. There’s some talk that Sindelar might apply for an additional year of eligibility but the way Plummer’s playing, Purdue might not need him next season.

Plummer knows the offense and runs it efficiently. He’s the type of quarterback Jeff Brohm loves; he’s tough, smart and accurate.
