Texas A&M football was able to smack UTSA around for four quarters on Saturday and the Aggies picked up one final non-conference win.
One final non-conference stood between Texas A&M and the final gauntlet of SEC action and the Aggies took care of UTSA 45-14 on Saturday afternoon in College Station.
The game was close for about a quarter and then the Aggies realized they were the overwhelming favorite and just hammered their way to a blowout win. While this victory isn’t going to open any eyes as UTSA is nothing more than a mediocre Group of Five team, it does bring the Aggies to bowl eligibility before a bye week.
Jimbo Fisher’s team still has some work to do, but this confidence-booster was much-needed for Texas A&M.
What’d we learn?
3. Kellen Mond is heating up
After receiving plenty of criticism for shaky performances against Alabama and Ole Miss, Kellen Mond has begun to heat up and realize his potential.
The junior quarterback had a good game against Mississippi State a week ago, passing for 234 yards and three touchdowns with over 70 yards on the ground. He looked like the quarterback everyone had expected before the season began, and he carried that over into the UTSA game.
In fact, Mond finished the day with an incredibly efficient performance through the air, passing for 211 yards and a touchdown on 16-of-21 completions. He added a rushing score and just gained more momentum heading into the final weeks of the regular season.
Texas A&M gets South Carolina before traveling to Georgia and LSU to end the season. Mond needed this performance to gain some steam before a tough stretch.
