3. Georgia Southern 24, No. 20 Appalachian State 21

Appalachian State became the last unbeaten Sun Belt team to fall in 2019 on Halloween night, dropping this contest to Georgia Southern, 24-21. The Eagles won their second straight game against the Mountaineers, who had won the previous three meetings.

Wesley Kennedy ran for 145 yards and two touchdowns in the win for Georgia Southern. Playing in the same Sun Belt division as Appalachian State, the Eagles are now tied in the loss column with the Mountaineers after the victory.

2. Purdue 31, Nebraska 27

The Boilermakers received a pep talk from New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees before taking the field against Nebraska. The future Hall of Famer was enjoying his NFL team’s bye week to cheer for his alma mater, and he could not have been disappointed at all in the final outcome.

David Bell scored on a 9-yard run with a minute left to play to give Purdue the 31-27 win. For the Boilermakers, it’s only their second conference win of the season and third win overall. For Nebraska, the loss is sure to drive home the fact that, just like Texas, its erstwhile former Big 12 foe, the program is not “back”. The Cornhuskers have now lost three games in a row and drop to 4-5 overall.
