Another week of PAC 12 football, another week of clarity from the conference.

After the release of the first College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday night, there is one thing we learned: the committee is taking the PAC 12 seriously. They kept Oregon and Utah ahead of traditional powers of Florida, Auburn and Oklahoma.

Oregon and Utah have to be ecstatic with the rankings, particularly the Utes. The committee has given this conference the recognition as competitive, and with a lot of the teams in front of them still waiting to play each other, a PAC 12 championship could decide the four seed. Lots of reason for optimism for the conference, let’s get to the rankings.

857. . . . Buffaloes . 12. team

The feeling of this team after beating Nebraska and Arizona State to now is completely different.

I think the Oregon loss derailed the team. We knew the defense was really bad, but now the offense can’t even score. It’s a tough time to be a Buffaloes fan when the team can’t do anything.

Another team with a different outlook four games later. I alluded to Cal tumbling down the rankings when starting quarterback Chase Garbers went down, and so far that has come to fruition. The quarterback play is just awful now.

Cal’s defense continues to be tremendous, but they can’t keep up with anyone. If anyone scores 20 on Cal it probably is going to end up in a loss. Tough break for the Golden Bears, but this was more realistic than their 4-0 start.
