Baylor Football: 3 takeaways from overtime win at TCU in Week 11

3. Charlie Brewer held in check by the TCU defense
Baylor quarterback Charlie Brewer hasn’t been nearly as prolific as past Bears quarterbacks. Entering Saturday’s game against the Horned Frogs, Brewer was averaging 267 yards and two touchdowns per game through the air. What he did manage to do, well, was protect the football and run the offense efficiently.
In Fort Worth, Brewer struggled to get things going against a tough TCU defense. The Baylor quarterback was held to 51 yards on 10-of-14 passing with an interception through the first two quarters, shutting down some of Baylor’s opportunities.
By the end, Brewer benefitted from several pass interference penalties that bolstered his final stat line of 195 yards through the air with two touchdowns and an interception on 27-of-41 passing. TCU was content to let Brewer take all the checkdown throws available to him, because they knew he was unable to get things done as the field tightened up closer to the goal line.
But Coupled with a running game that proved incapable of cracking the TCU front seven, with only 99 net rushing yards by the end of the contest, it was a rough day that exposed Baylor as a team that relied too heavily on its defense to get to 8-0.
Yet they still managed to hold on to improve to 9-0 as they head into the toughest stretch of the season. Brewer got it done in overtime, throwing both of his touchdown passes after regulation closed, and Baylor is still unbeaten thanks to his efforts in the clutch.
