Baylor Football: 3 takeaways from overtime win at TCU in Week 11

2. Max Duggan couldn’t survive bad performance
Let’s just come right out and say it — TCU had a chance to upset Baylor at home on Saturday afternoon despite freshman quarterback Max Duggan rather than because of anything outstanding he did on the football field. And yet, even in performing so poorly Duggan did far more than enough for TCU to come close to the stunner over Baylor in front of their home crowd on Saturday afternoon.
The youngster has been hit-or-miss for the Horned Frogs all season long, and that came through once again in Week 11. Duggan threw two picks that Baylor was luckily only able to turn into three points, and that helped mitigate the costliness of his mistakes
Duggan finished 14-of-32 for 140 yards, keeping pace with Brewer in the passing battle even as he tossed those interceptions. Duggan did throw one touchdown pass in overtime, but it wasn’t enough. The young gunslinger just kept going out and guiding the Horned Frogs offense as well as he could, even as they did bog down in the red zone and relied so heavily on their pair of kickers.
Duggan was by no means great on Saturday, and TCU missed a chance to pull off a huge win over a rival because he wasn’t at his very best. When you choose to live or die by the guidance of a freshman quarterback, you know the risks inherent in such a move. The Horned Frogs proved unable to weather an off day from their young passer to pull off a major result.
