Virginia Tech football hosted Wake Forest on “Bud Foster” night at Lane Stadium. Here are three takeaways from the Hokies’ big win.

Held to season lows in points and yards, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons fell to the Virginia Tech Hokies 36-17 on the road in Blacksburg on Saturday afternoon.

The Deacons, in second place in the ACC Atlantic, needed the win in order to keep pace with the Clemson Tigers who are undefeated. The Hokies, in a four-way tie for second place in the Coastal, needed the win to keep control of their fate in the topsy-turvy division.

What did we learn from the Hokies’ big win?

3. Justin Fuente has turned the corner

Virginia head coach Justin Fuente has turned the corner with his Virginia Tech Hokies team. They’ve come a long way from the rash of transfers this offseason. He’s found the players that have bought into his system, and the way he wants to play football.

Coach Fuente has found his quarterback in sophomore quarterback Hendon Hooker. He likes mobile quarterbacks and Hooker is perfect for the system he wants to run.

Fuente and the Hokies knew they needed to shorten the game and keep the Wake Forest offense off of the field; the Hokies ran it 48 times for 228 yards. Mission accomplished.
