Boise State football survived another close call in Mountain West play as it beat Wyoming in overtime. What did we learn about the Broncos and Cowboys?

Boise State once again found themselves down at halftime against a Mountain West opponent. In Week 10, the Broncos came back from a 24-17 halftime deficit at San Jose State to topple the Spartans 52-42 after a barrage of second-half scoring. Against Wyoming at home a week later, Bryan Harsin’s squad was behind 10-7 at the intermission after the Cowboys kicked a field goal to take the lead with one second remaining on the clock.

Things remained tense for the Broncos heading into the second half, and Wyoming found themselves with a 17-10 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Boise State continued to play tough defense, but they were also faced with a Wyoming team that itself was playing strong when they didn’t have the football.

After surviving 20-17 on the Smurf Turf, Boise State still has only one loss and will remain right behind the AAC division leaders in the College Football Playoff rankings when the selection committee releases their next Top 25 this week. After coming so close to victory in Idaho, the Cowboys now head back to Wyoming dreaming about what it might have felt like to lead the MWC Mountain..

Boise State was in danger of missing out on the Mountain West championship game and fall completely out of the Group of Five battle for the lucrative New Year’s Six berth if they lost to Wyoming, but they showed some real resilience to prevail in front of a dwindling home crowd. What did we learn about these two Mountain foes in late night action at Albertsons Stadium on Saturday?
