Starting with Minnesota’s win against Penn State, Week 11’s best upsets involve some serious implications for the 2019 College Football Playoff race.

Many anticipated Week 11 of the 2019 college football season to have some ground-shaking implications for the drive to the College Football Playoff. Two games featured power conference unbeaten teams, and several other undefeated squads were facing significant tests.

Some notable winners emerged from these Week 11 contests. No. 17 Minnesota continued its historic run under head coach P.J. Fleck, moving to 9-0 with a 31-26 win against No. 4 Penn State. The Nittany Lions were also undefeated heading into this game and were 6.5-point favorites.

No. 12 Baylor needed three overtimes against TCU to remain unbeaten, getting a late field goal to tie the game at 9-9 in regulation before trading touchdowns in the first two overtime periods. The Bears, now 9-0, will get to host ESPN’s College GameDay in Waco for next week’s matchup against the Oklahoma Sooners. It, too, barely survived Week 11, needing a stop on a two-point conversion in the final minute from Iowa State to emerge with a 42-41 victory.

And lastly, No. 3 LSU held on to defeat No. 2 Alabama in a much-hyped matchup between two SEC West heavyweights. The Tigers were 7.0-point underdogs before this game against the Crimson Tide, though it feels odd to truly consider this win an “upset” for coach Ed Orgeron’s team.

Top CFP contenders who will not be found in this list include No. 1 Ohio State and No. 5 Clemson, who easily dispatched Maryland and N.C. State, respectively.
